a good story, pt. 2

February 12, 2007

We left off with Mark calling and the two of us arranging to meet and “jam”. So the meeting day arrived, and Mark came over to my apartment and helped me load my drums into his tiny red Chevette. Looking back, I feel a little brave (or stupid?) for just loading my drums and myself into some beat-up car belonging to a guy who I didn’t even know. I guess I was going with my instincts, and my instincts told me that we’d quickly become good friends. It was a little weird now that I think about it, but I instantly felt like I had known him for a long time. There was absolutely no physical attraction at all (he wasn’t really my type), but we instantly “clicked”, so I guess that helped me feel ok about getting into a car with someone I had just met.

We drove over to the guitar player’s house, I set up my drums and we played through a few tunes. It seemed like I was picking things up pretty quickly but I was really nervous and was trying to keep it simple. They seemed to appreciate that though.

Maybe they were just desperate, but it took just one practice and I was in the band. We were on our way!
