Ironically, Vicki used to live in Wilmington, NC (as did I), and we both moved to Atlanta around the same time. We happened to meet through an Atlanta musicians email list after moving here. I don’t know Vicki that well; basically our relationship is based on me patronizing her CDR duplication business, Spotted Kiva Productions, a few times for eskimo kiss and The Other Sound. What I do know about her though, is that she’s a workaholic who not only performs (when she is able) but also founded an organization called Indie Music for Life, as well as serves as the CEO for the organization Indiegrrl.

Over the past year or so Vicki has organized numerous cancer benefits through the Indie Music for Life organization. Now, however, the tables have turned a bit as Vicki’s friends are rallying around her to support her own fight against Leukemia. She had already survived several bouts of cancer before being diagnosed with terminal Leukemia at the beginning of the year. Since then she’s been undergoing chemotherapy as well as receiving a bone marrow transplant in June.

Those of you who know me know how sensitive I am when it comes to cancer, as my younger brother is a cancer survivor. I know first hand how it affects the families and friends of those diagnosed with this terrible disease. Vicki’s hard work in raising cancer awareness is a testament to her character and dedication, and I urge you to support this cause however you can.
